Over the past decade, my paintings have developed along two parallels which evolved out of one another. These began with a body of work to which I refer as "multiple narratives". They moved into and coincided with an exploration of the figure. Superficially these two series look very different. I enjoy the differences between them; the detailed particularity of the multiple narratives contrasting the broader, more painterly figures.

Themes of (dis)connection, (dis)association, contradiction, fragmentation, (dis)location, irreverence, sexual ambiguity, whimsy, and a sense of being both in and out of place are recurrent in both series to varying degrees. I strive to create the impression of worlds that feel personal and intimate while remaining ambiguous. The paintings, in their ambiguity, draw the viewer into a fantastical world that invite, yet elude interpretation. I am interested in exploring images and ideas which create a sense of paradox.
