Through an investigation of systems of growth and information, Benarcik explores the bridge between the unknowable and the uncertain. She raises questions about how and where the origin or seed of thought locates itself in the mind, as made visible in the world.

In examining these systems she composes environments that create a path as form, or a path created through a collection of related forms. Recurring references to roots/routes ref lect a map in the process of its own making. The direction of these paths as thoughts seem to be guided by obstacles or imposed conditions that either reject or embrace logic. Our eyes travel along these paths in a manner similar to reading lines in the pages of books. We assert this familiar pattern, yet we are faced with the necessity to find comfort or acceptance with the tension between natural forces and human will.

There is a gap between form and function. Bare trees form ladders which can not provide weight bearing support, yet many provide information or space for ref lection. Books lie at the base of a tree like fallen f ruits, or are bound within a house form which is out of reach.

These twists on our expectations ref lect an externalization of the architecture of the mind. Natural forms amplify the structure of the brain and body as planted in a garden, or function as the building blocks of occupiable space. These forms / spaces function as evidence of humankind?s continuous adaptability and perceptual awareness in the face of adversity, and the illusion of stability.

Desire to climb and willingness to f loat are integral to an awareness of what is visible yet unattainable. We are tangled in this desire to sift through a complex matrix of thought and matter in efforts to find some semblance of order and meaning as a marker of being.
