I paint because I paint.
The touch of the brush on the bark of the tree is wholly seductive.
I follow the markings which have recorded the history of the tree, forever astonished at the power, beauty, wit, and elegance of nature as she leaves the trace of her path on all that she touches.
As I walk, wherever in the world, fragments of wood seen lying on the ground arrest my attention, I bend down, pick up, brush clean, and reflect.
Back in the studio each is placed in relation to the others; out of their natural surroundings each fragment becomes an object in itself, ready for the imagination to find an infinity of purposes.
Time comes when my eye fixes on a piece in the studio, I lift my brush to paint. The energy of the colours intertwine with the energy of the wood for in life all is energy.
I work in series so that I explore my obsessions through my work, nature, memory and culture, forming a concrete expression of the matters I care about.
This is the process of my art, forever re-inventing itself within the genre I have created.
